The Department of Journalism at Universidad Alberto Hurtado invites students, academics, researchers, journalists, communicators and professionals from a range of disciplines to take part in the call for papers, panels and academic and journalistic posters for the 3rd Gender, Communication and Technology Festival 2026, to be held in person and free of charge on 25 and 26 November at the university’s heritage campus in Santiago.
The initiative — organised as part of UAH’s participation in the UNITWIN/UNESCO Network on Gender, Communication and ICTs, and developed in partnership with Wikimedia Chile and the Chilean Network of Feminist Journalists and Communicators — seeks to consolidate a meeting point between academia, journalism, civil society organisations, the public sector and the wider public to debate the main challenges posed by digital transformation from a human rights perspective.
In this third edition, the Festival invites submissions of academic research, journalistic work, case studies, intervention experiences, social innovation initiatives and creative projects linked to any of the call’s seven thematic strands, among them: gender and digital rights; artificial intelligence and platforms; communication and representation; digital citizenship; digital literacy and wellbeing; diversity and interculturality; and community communication and social transformation.
Proposals may be submitted in three formats:
- Papers, which will be organised into thematic panels
- Panels, made up of three to five participants
- Academic and journalistic posters, aimed in particular at giving visibility to the research and experiences of students, early-career researchers and professionals.
The call is open to people from a wide range of disciplines, including communication, journalism, sociology, anthropology, education, psychology, social work, law, political science, computer science, cultural studies and gender studies, among others.
Submissions are open until 31 August 2026, with results announced on 15 September. All proposals will be assessed by an interdisciplinary committee made up of academics and professionals from universities and institutions across the country.
The Festival aims to promote knowledge exchange, strengthen collaborative networks and contribute to research, experiences and initiatives that allow for a critical understanding of the relationships between gender, communication and digital technologies, fostering more inclusive, democratic and safe digital environments.
